Which health funds cover the cost of laser eye surgery?
Did you know that some health funds are now covering some or all of the costs of your laser eye surgery? Please see below important information regarding health cover for laser eye surgery.

Procedure Type: LASIK bilateral eye surgery
Cover Type (Hospital & Extras): Ultimate Cover Waiting Period: 12 months
Important Information: With HBF Health Cover for laser eye surgery, customers are required to pay up front, and then claim back the cost of surgery later. Under the Ultimate health cover, HBF reimburses customers the full amount. Customers can also use GAPSAVER credits and optical extra’s cover to partially cover laser surgery.

Health Fund: Medibank Private
Health Fund: Medibank Private
Procedure Type: Laser Eye Surgery
Cover Type (Hospital & Extras): Ultra Cover Waiting Period: 36 months
Important Information: With Medibank Health Cover for laser eye surgery, customers are required to pay up front, and then claim back the cost of surgery later. Customers who hold ULTRA Health cover for 3 years will get back approximately half. This is available for LASIK/PRK only.

Important Information: Customers are fully covered by BUPA for laser eye surgery if they have Ultimate hospital & Ultimate extra’s cover. The initial consultation with Lions Laser Vision will be covered by BUPA. This is available for LASIK/PRK only.

Waiting Period: 12 months

Procedure Type: Eye Surgery (non-cosmetic only)
Cover Type (Hospital & Extras): Gold Hospital Cover
Waiting Period: 12 months
Important Information: At HIF, the Gold Hospital covers you for all inpatient, medically necessary (i.e. non-cosmetic) to 100% of the MBS fee inpatient – this includes Eye Surgery. However it is important to note if the LASIK surgery is for cosmetic purposes only, then it will not be covered.

1. Lifestyle Extras will pay $600 per eye with a lifetime limit of $1200
